Melania Trump, the Media and Plagiarism!

I’m back from my brilliant cartoonist/journalist daughter, Susie’s wedding. I promise I’ll draw more cartoons. Really, I promise. I drew this one live on Twitch yesterday, about Melania Trump’s plagiarism of Michelle Obama’s speech at the Democratic Convention in 2008. I don’t care much about this non-issue, but it makes for a funny scene, which is the extent of my take on this.

I know that the Donald is quite tall, but I feel compelled to draw him shorter, and I expect that the cartoons of Trump will grow shorter with time. Melania is a wonderful, goofy character to draw and I look forward to more of her! Readers might recognize my group of running media in this cartoon, which I re-use at every opportunity. I like the idea that the breathless media chasing down the next stupid thing is the same, over and over. In the video below see me drawing this one, and importing the media gaggle from a Cagle cartoon oldie.

In the next video below, watch me color this one in Photoshop while I chat with viewers on Twitch.

Trump and the Judge

Donald Trump has been credited with straight, politically incorrect talk, saying what his supporters wanted to hear. Trouble is, sometimes the straight, politically incorrect talk is about topics that his voters don’t care about, like bashing the judge in the Trump University case. Bashing the judge as impartial because he is Mexican American came back to bite trump on on this one.

This all makes me think that Trump doesn’t really have his finger on the pulse of the “silent majority” as seemed to be the case a couple of weeks ago. His thin skin shows where he is defending his past, which seems to be a scab that Hillary may choose to pick.

See me draw this one in real time in the video below! Watch it at 2x speed to make me look like a genius.

In the video below I color the cartoon in Photoshop on my nifty Wacom Cintiq.

I Drew a PRO-Trump Cartoon

We get complaints from readers because we don’t post pro-Trump cartoons. We don’t post pro-Hillary cartoons either. We just don’t get any pro-Trump and pro-Hillary cartoons. Cartoons in favor of something are lousy cartoons. Editorial cartooning is a negative art form.

That said, today I drew a PRO-Trump cartoon! It strikes me that the accusations about Trump University are no different than the accusations against hundreds of for-profit colleges – especially art colleges that accept any talentless applicants who will pay, even though they know the students won’t be making livings as artists. Reputable institutions drive students into a lifetime of debt as  students often graduate with no marketable skills. I don’t see Trump University as any worse than the rest.

I’m sorry that it is so wordy! I’ll be more terse next time. Watch me draw this one in the video below!

Watch me color the cartoon in the next video …

Women Always Cry at Weddings

Donald Trump became the “presumptive Republican nominee” this week, to the surprise and dismay of many “establishment” Republicans. Every time the Donald talks about women he seems to dig a little deeper hold for himself.

I’ve been getting comments from readers about Trump’s flesh tones in my cartoons. People seem to think that I should make Trump much more orange. There seems to be a consensus among my readers that Trump wears protective goggles around his eyes as he gets a spray tan and that should be reflected in my flesh tones. I’ve decided to go along with the readers, who also complain that I don’t make Trump’s hair orange enough. Alright. OK. But I’m going to make the transition gradually, starting with this cartoon.

Want to see me draw this? Check out the YouTube video below.

See me color the cartoon in Photoshop in the next video. Twitch was failing when I was coloring, so I turned off the microphone and listened to the television, just like the good old days.

Trying to Nail Down Bernie’s Coffin

The math just doesn’t work for Bernie Sanders who has essentially been eliminated from contention for the Democratic nomination – but Bernie will not go softly into that good night.

I draw my cartoons live online now – want to watch? It is nicer to watch on YouTube, in the video below, than watching live because you can watch at double speed. I really look like a genius when I draw at double speed. Catch me live on twitch.tv/darylcagle and you can chat, if you can stand to watch me draw slowly, in real time.

Cruz and Kasich Team Up to Topple Trump

Cruz and Kasich have decided not to compete against each other so that they don’t split up the “stop-Trump” vote in the remaining states.

I think Trump gets a spray tan, and covers his eyes, making for little white areas around his eyes. I suppose he could have a farmers tan and wears sunglasses when he’s outside, but I lean towards the spray tan theory. I’ve gotten criticized by some readers who complain that I don’t draw Trump flesh tone orange enough. In fact, I’ve been using the same old flesh tone for Trump that I have been using for other characters in the cartoons. With this cartoon I made a change to Trump’s flesh tone.  Should I stick with it? Is he orange enough? Should I go back to flesh tone normalcy with Trump?

Check out the video below to watch me draw this cartoon in real time.

in the next video I color the cartoon in Photoshop.

Trump Drag Race!

When Trump complains that the GOP convention rules ignore the will of the voters, the retort from establishment Republicans is to say “those have been the rules all along!” Perhaps it is more damning that the rules have been so undemocratic all along. (That, plus I got to draw Trump’s butt.)

See me draw and color this one in real time in Photoshop in the video below!

The Party of Lincoln!

I imagine that the grandpa of the Republican Party, the Party of Lincoln, would respond to the current Republican primaries like this.

Trump Abortion!

Democracy can be annoying when the guy who gets the most votes is the guy you really, really don’t want to win.

In the real-time video below you can see me drawing the cartoon, from rough sketch to finished color, ready for print. People like to ask me how long it takes to draw a cartoon – here is the answer! Keep an eye on Cagle.com where you can see me draw live in a popup window when I do a new cartoon, or follow me on Twitch.tv/darylcagle to get an alert when I draw live, and join the live chat while I draw!
