Mike Pence in Trump’s Shadow

There is a great tradition of drawing politicians as doggies in political cartoons. Last night the new Republican VP nominee, Mike Pence, gave his acceptance speech at the GOP convention, and here is the cartoon I drew yesterday. trumpPence750

See me draw this one in real time in the video below …

And see me color this one in Photoshop, in real time. I suggest you choose the option to watch these YouTube videos at double speed.

My brilliant cartoonist buddy. Taylor Jones, has been drawing some nice Pence doggies. Here are three I enjoyed!

Here Taylor has Pence as a little doggie. I’m not quite sure why Trump is drooling, or why Eric Trump is goose-stepping, but, whatever.

182112_600That’s Taylor’s Ivanka and puppy Pence at the right. Maybe little Pence doggies will be the political cartooning norm going forward. I look forward to that.

Trump and the Easter Bunny

There has been a lot of talk about Donald Trump’s foreign policy advisors. Trump says he consults himself on foreign policy issues, which makes for a nice Easter cartoon. The cartoon harkens back to Jimmy Stewart’s “Harvey” the invisible bunny friend.

The video below shows me drawing the whole thing, from start to finish in real time!

Donald Trump Skips the Fox News/GOP/Iowa Debate!

Frankly, I think it is smart of Trump to skip the Fox News/GOP/Iowa debate tonight.  Fox News seems to be on an all-out anti-Trump blitz today. What happened to the good old days when news networks were fair and balanced?

I drew this one as a live stream on Twitch – please come and follow me at Twitch.tv/darylcagle. This one took about four hours to draw, so it is broken into two parts. Here’s part one, where I start with a blank sheet of paper and figure out what to draw.

Oh! That was two hours long! And there are ANOTHER two hours to watch in the video below!

Bernie Pulls Ahead of Hillary in the Presidential Race

This cartoon is a collection of clichés, and it marks the first time I’ve drawn Bernie Sanders. I enjoy Bernie and I hope he can keep up the pace. Both Bernie and Hillary are wonderful cartoon characters, as are Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. The pundits have it all wrong, this year Americans are voting for the best cartoon candidates.

I’ll keep drawing my cartoons in live streams and I hope we’ll get more people joining in and chatting while I’m online. Watch me draw this cartoon in real time in the video below!

Reince Priebus

I think Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus is funny. His name is funny. His face is funny. Everything about the guy is funny – but he’s tough to draw in a cartoon because most readers don’t know him. It is only wonks like me who watch cable tv news talking heads all day who get to know the guy. But what the hell, I drew him anyway.

I was also looking for an excuse to use this brick wall. Brick walls are funny too. And that last Republican debate on CNBC, that was funny.

I’d love to hear the negotiations that are going on about the next GOP presidential debate. Their first list of demands was funny.

Here is the rough sketch (you guys tell me you like to see this stuff). You can see that I was undecided about where to put Reince’s left arm. Maybe he’s better with four arms.

Monkey on Your Back

I’ve enjoyed the recent back-and-forth sniping between Donald Trump and Jeb Bush about whether President George W. Bush “kept us safe.” Of-course the answer to that is that he kept us safe, here but not overseas, from September 12th, 2001 going forward – a couple of qualifiers that Jeb neglected to mention.

A “monkey on the back” is an editorial cartooning standard – in fact, my buddy Taylor Jones drew a better George W. Bush monkey on the back cartoon recently, that I noticed just now, after I finished my cartoon above. I might not have drawn it had I noticed Taylor’s excellent work first – oh well, there will be plenty of monkeys on the back to come.

Here’s President George W. Bush as a monkey on the back of John McCain back in 2008, by David Fitzsimmons.

This is one of my favorite monkey-Bush oldies, by Sandy Huffaker, from the good old days of 2005.

Hillary the Commander-in-Chief

Here’s Commander-in-Chief Hillary! Back in 2008 there was a lot of chatter about whether Hillary was up to the job of commanding the troops. Hillary told a story about how she was “dodging bullets” as she flew into Bosnia – a story that would have shamed even Brian Williams.

We also heard a lot about how Hillary thought America would rather she got an emergency call at 3:00 in the morning, instead of Barack Obama. I drew a cartoon similar to this one in 2008, with Hillary’s medals, and I realized that in only seven years, many of the medals have changed, but Hillary is basically the same. Here’s a new, updated version of my military, Hillary golden oldie. Come see our big collection of Bill ‘n Hillary cartoons.
