Sarah Sanders

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders got caught up in the Mueller Report last week where she admitted, under oath, to lying to the press. She called the lie a “slip of the tongue” even tough she had repeated the lie a number of times, that “countless” members of the FBI contacting her to say they had lost confidence in FBI Director James Comey who the President fired. Here’s my cartoon.

This is actually the first time I’ve drawn Sarah Sanders. She is great fun to draw, and since she’s on television all the time it would seem that I would draw her often. Maybe I will draw her more –we’ll see if she lasts.

Sanders’ uneven, “smokey” eyes and shapeless form are fun, but her asymmetric mouth isn’t really that big, certainly not big enough for a tongue so huge that she can slip on it. I took a look at how other cartoonists have drawn Sanders.

This one is by Sandy Huffaker. Sandy used to be a regular in the CagleCartoons syndicate and he has retired, but he draws a new one once in a while. I grew up watching Sandy’s work in Time Magazine when I was in school. He should come out of retirement!

This one is by my buddy, Taylor Jones. It’s all about the eyes.

This one by Pat Bagley catches her very simply.

This one is by Steve Sack, who catches her without one big eye.

Here’s one by Adam Zyglis of the Buffalo News.

Here’s one more, from New Yorker cartoonist, Chris Weyant, who draws symmetrical eyes, flops her mouth and adds a few pounds and loses a few pearls, but still captures her.

TRUE COLOR!

This will be my last batch of TRUE cartoons for my blog. I watercolored these for some reason that I forget! Back in the 1990’s, when this ran in newspapers, it ran in black and white and there was no color, Sunday TRUE. Gotta love color!

TRUE Crazy Stuff 4!

Here’s a new batch of my old TRUE cartoons. This first one is a self-portrait of younger me, sitting on the toilet, talking on my land-line rotary phone. Looking at the old True cartoons makes me feel young again, until I notice details that make me feel old.

Donald Trump Tongue Noose

Today on CNN there is a constant barrage of Trump-bashing in response to Trump’s John McCain-bashing. The TV pundits seem sure that Trump’s words have doomed his presidential campaign; I’m not so sure, and as a cartoonist I enjoy having Trump around.

Jenet Yellen and the Fed

Wall Street types are holding their breath, eagerly awaiting a new pronouncement from the Federal Reserve Bank’s meeting that’s going on now. Those Wall Street “bulls” are  looking for the word, “patience” in a Fed statement, as a clue to whether interest rates will go up, or stay low longer.

Janet Yellen is a rather dull character, but she is delightfully easy to draw. I wash more readers could recognize her so that I wouldn’t have to put a label on her expressive torso. I always feel like I’ve somehow failed in a cartoon when I have to use labels, even when I have a caricature right and the character should be recognizable. Here’s the cartoon in black and white line art, which most readers will see in the newspaper.

…and here it is in color, which most people prefer. Notice that the Wall Street bulls are all brown, St. Just style cattle, ready to slaughter for their delicious beef.
