Obama’s Lousy Seat
President Obama’s metaphorical airline seat is a lousy one right now. Here’s my newest cartoon.
Most people see my cartoons in black and white in the newspapers. I like the cartoons better in black and white – particularly if I do them with no gray tone, just line. Here is what most people see in the newspaper.
I know I should have drawn a Ray Rice cartoon, and I was going to draw something similar to the one that Steve Sack drew below … but I was too slow. And Steve’s cartoon was better than the one was would have drawn, so if I was a little faster, I would have been embarrassed.
The other thing I should have drawn, but I didn’t, was something on Apple’s big product announcement. I put this Nate Beeler oldie up on Twitter and it went viral. Some things never change, from one Apple product announcement to the next.

The Media’s Push for War
During the run up to George W. Bush’s war in Iraq, I drew a bunch of cartoons that I regret, supporting the rush to war. One of my biggest regrets was believing the reporting of Judy Miller and the New York Times about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. I won’t make that mistake again – I have no trust left for the New York Times and when the media all jumps in pushing for war, my inclination is to push back. Here’s my latest on the media press for war.
I seem to be all alone on this. I notice that just about all of our other cartoonists are jumping on the war-bandwagon – even the liberal doves who I would expect to resist. When the war-drums play, it seems that everyone wants to dance. See our Obama and ISIS/ISIL cartoons here.

It Sucks to be You
Iraq’s president Nouri Al Maliki is a thug; I’m not too troubled to see Maliki’s Shiite Iraq taking a tumble. I almost had Obama saying, “I told you so …” but that wasn’t very funny. “It sucks to be you,” strikes me as funny, and the gist of what Obama seems to be saying to Maliki.
I voted for Obama to get us out of foreign wars, supporting one bad guy vs. another, only to see Obama jump into Libya and urge military action in Syria. I’m afraid Obama will jump into Iraq again, and he’ll surely be delighted to leave troops in Afghanistan forever. At least he hasn’t done jumped back into Iraq yet.
