#MeToo Trump

The Statue of Liberty and the Statue of Justice seem to have been hanging out together a lot more, in editorial cartoons recently.

They are a natural couple! Here they are hanging out at the Women’s March on Washington.

My favorite Liberty and Justice cartoon is the one below, by Nate Beeler of the Columbus Dispatch. Nate drew this one when the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage.

Government Steals Pig-Whack Newspapers

Our Bulgarian Cagle Cartoonist, my buddy Christo Komarnitski, started an editorial cartoon newspaper called “Prass Press” which roughly translates to either “Whack newspaper” or “Pig newspaper” meaning the newspaper that “whacks the (government) pigsty in Bulgaria -the dirty dealings, hypocrisy and corruption.” If only Bulgarian readers could see a copy of the newspaper I’m sure they would enjoy it.

Alas, just like in the old communist days, when government authorities don’t like political cartoons, newspapers just “disappear”. More than 90% of the copies of Prass Press have been lost by the only distribution company in Bulgaria, which happens to be controlled by the Bulgarian government that the Prass Press criticizes.

Read more about Prass Press here: https://bnr.bg/en/post/100805939/who-swiped-the-circulation-of-the-paper-of-the-rude-cartoonists

Our new ERROR Cartoon!

Now that we have new editorial standards and are killing the raunchiest cartoons, we’re leaving some holes. We rely on our cartoonists to upload their own cartoons, which sometimes leads to some nasty stuff that we’ve been taking down as the world’s cartoonists rage against Donald Trump with the nastiest metaphors in their cartoon toolboxes. After we kill a cartoon on our syndicate sites we can take some time killing the cartoon on Cagle.com, which is left with an awkward hole where the killed cartoon would have been. We also have some tech problems sometimes that lead to a bad image.

All of that led us to the conclusion that we needed an error cartoon to act as a placeholder for Cagle.com cartoons gone bad. Here it is …

Hopefully you won’t see this cartoon very often.

I drew this one live on Twitch – want to see? Watch the video below!

In the next video, watch me coloring the cartoon, while I chat with fans on Twitch …

Trump Wins! Oops! Ouch!

Ouch! It turns out that I’m not too good at predicting election outcomes; I suppose I have some good company in that, still … OUCH! Here’s a nice, triumphant Trump I drew last year.

cwzy_zzxgaahy_e187261_600I suspect we’ll get lots of cartoons today with Trump hair on things like mushroom clouds and the earth. My Hillary/Dragon cartoon is a collectors item now! Today I’ll work on reversing Trump and Hillary and I’ll put out a new version of this cartoon at the right. This is looking like my “Dewey Defeats Truman” newspaper to wave around this morning.
We’re already getting a bunch of Trump Wins cartoons from cartoonists who were up all night. Here’s our first Trump mushroom cloud from my buddy Steve Sack, on the left!

The “Trump Wins” cartoon below is from our most conservative cartoonist, Sean Delonas, the longtime cartoonist for the New York Post.

Below Delonas is one from our brilliant, Portuguese cartoonist, Cristina Sampaio, who doesn’t get credit for staying up all night because of her time zone. Below that is one from Hajo de Reiger, our brilliant cartoonist from Holland. Somehow I think we’ll have a lot of Trump Statues of Liberty cartoons today!

Trump Accepting the Election Results

After the third debate, the media has been agog about Trump’s refusal to say that he will accept the results of the election. I suppose the threat is that an angry army of Trumpettes across America will indignantly raise more trouble than usual.

I put together a show of Statue of Liberty cartoons for the cartoonists convention in St Just le Martel, France a couple of weeks ago. Liberty represents our acceptance of immigrants along with our general values, our constitution and our patriotic vision of a good, law abiding America – and sometimes she delivers bitter bites. Gotta love Liberty.

Hey, sorry, I didn’t do a video of this one. I’ve had a cold, and nobody wants to see me sniffling, sneezing and coughing my way through a video. I’ll start again soon. Really.

We Added a New and Old Cartoonist

One of my favorite cartoonists has rejoined our CagleCartoons.com newspaper syndication package this week. Cuban cartoonist, Alen Lauzán, who emigrated to Chile and works from Santiago. Alan uses no words in his cartoons and has a wonderful, illustrative style. He’s back after eight years away. Welcome back Alen!

No cartoonist in Cuba has ever drawn Fidel Castro – but ex-patriot Cubans draw Fidel all the time! Here’s a great Fidel as Freddy Krueger that Alen drew back in 2008.

Alan likes to draw cartoons about technology, usually combining the old with the new, like this one …

Here’s Lauzon’s take on Liberty …

Editors Who Insist That We Edit First

I’m just now getting back to work after a lovely NCS Reuben Awards weekend and some bleary-eyed days of bookkeeping. While I was away, our cartoonist, Randy Enos, drew this Trump cartoon that made editors angry – they insisted we should have never posted it. Even though the editors print only a select few cartoons in our CagleCartoons.com package that we post for syndication, they often object to being exposed to cartoon choices that they find objectionable. This one made some vocal editors angry.

I also get mail from readers who wonder why we don’t post pro-Trump cartoons. The answer is: we don’t have any pro-Trump cartoons. I don’t know any cartoonists are are pro-Trump.

North Carolina Bathroom Bill Lawsuit

As ugly as the North Carolina Bathroom bill is, I welcome the departure from Trump/Hillary cartoons. I worried a bit that showing the Statue of Liberty’s butt would be too rude for editors to stomach, but there is something about her being entirely green that seems to make her statuesque butt not seem to stand out as quite so rude. I know editors don’t like bare butts, and cartoons with butts don’t get printed much – still, as a cartoonist it is my responsibility to draw bare butts when the news compels me to do so. Here’s today’s cartoon …

You can watch me draw this one in real time in the video below. There were thunderstorms in Nashville that played havoc with my Twitch feed, so I wasn’t getting many comments from fans and I didn’t have much to say. Perhaps this is a good one to watch at double speed with no sound.

The next YouTube video shows me coloring the cartoon in Photoshop …

Trump and Cruz Dissing Muslims

This Trump/Cruz cartoon shows the poor Statue of Liberty reacting to the rhetoric. I hesitate every time I draw Liberty now. The Onion has made Lady Liberty into a symbol of third-rate editorial cartooning, always appearing with a tear in her eye. There’s some truth in that.

This cartoon is an update of the oldie below, where I had a Republican elephant at the left. This one needed an update!

Watch me draw this one in real time in the video below!

Republicans and Refugees

This week the House passed a bill that would stop the US from taking in 10,000 Syrian refugees; President Obama promised to veto the bill if it reached his desk. All of the Republican presidential candidates have been crowing about stopping refugee immigrants in the wake of the terror attacks in Paris, and the cartoonists have been doing some healthy Republican bashing in response, often including the Statue of Liberty with its obvious irony. Here’s mine …

I was impressed by this one, from my buddy Pat Bagley of the Salt Lake Tribune, featuring the dead Syrian toddler found on the beach in Greece, with Lady Liberty’s toes …

This Liberty in the position of the dead boy on the beach, by my cartoonist buddy Milt Priggee impressed me even more. (It would have been better without the sentence in the black rectangle.)

This Liberty is from my socialist cartoonist buddy, Rainer Hachfeld, from Germany.

There’s no Statue of Liberty, but this refugees cartoon by Hajo de Reijger of the Netherlands is so elegant in its form that I had to share it here …
