Trump Toilet

Trump isn’t showing much respect to Congress these days. The president will not comply with any subpoenas from the House committees that are investigating him and the courts can’t do much about it because Trump’s term will be over by the time the courts come to any decisions. My cartoon shows Trump’s attitude about Congress.

This isn’t the first time I’ve drawn Trump on the toilet –here’s an oldie from a couple of years ago when it looked like Trump was spinning out and sinking with some forgettable issue of the moment.

Somehow I think Trump will have more visits to the cartoon toilet before long.

TRUE Stupid Stuff 2!

Here’s another new batch of my old TRUE cartoons from the 1990’s – at least the ones that look like they could still be true. This is from a batch about government.

Big Election for Republicans and Tic-Tac-Toe

The big election wins for Republicans gave us an elephant cartoon festival that continues today. Here is our great new collection of cartoons on the GOP sweep.

I posted three cartoons yesterday! The first one started out as I was thinking of the Republicans taking “a big bite of the apple” which didn’t quite work, because it looked like the elephant was damaging and consuming the capitol, so I went with a Capitol ice cream cone and a big lick. (No, I didn’t pay a lot of attention to the perspective on the Capitol – hey, this is a cartoon.)

And here’s the GOP having a nice day, while the Democrats are having a lousy day.

Here’s the GOP win. They played a good game this time around.

Tic-Tac-Toe cartoons are a favorite of mine; they show more than winners and losers, tic-tac-toe shows a strategy. I drew this one when it became clear that Obama was going to beat Mitt Romney.

I drew this one four years earlier, when it was clear that Obama was going to beat McCain.

Tic-tac-toe isn’t only good for elections. I drew this one a few years ago, when Saddam Hussein’s regime fell.

I regret that my early Iraq cartoons were not very sophisticated, and were much to supportive of the war. I’ve learned my lesson this time around and all the warmongering media and public support for going back into Iraq looks like the old rush to war winning over the public again … as illustrated in the tic-tac-toe-oldie below. Somehow it looks like there is more tic-tac-toe to come.

GOP Vote on Obamacare… Again

The House Republicans have scheduled a meaningless vote on Wednesday to vent their anger at Obamacare, yet again. I thought I would draw a giant GOP elephant pooping in a pop-top Capitol toilet. It seemed appropriate.

I worried a bit about how to draw the Capitol as a pop-top toilet, particularly when the Capitol dome would need to be the toilet and the elephant would obscure much of the building. My solution was to pay little regard to the rules of perspective and just go with it – if people don’t get that the Capitol dome is hinged to the back of the toilet tank, well, it’s close enough.

I’ve gotten away from posting my sketches here and I’ve had a couple of requests to do it again, so here’s the rough pencil sketch.

Here is the finished line art. This is how most people will see the drawing in the newspapers that still typically print the editorial pages in black and white.

And here it is in color. Newspaper editors don’t like cartoons with potty themes; I’m not sure how much this one will be reprinted.

Best Deadline Earthquake Cartoons

Yesterday, a 5.8 earthquake struck Virgina, and shook up the entire East Coast, from Georgia to New England. Striking just before 2 p.m., many cartoonists were undoubtedly putting the finishing touches on Wednesday’s cartoon before they had to quickly shift gears and pump out a new cartoon about the rare earthquake for their newspaper.

Nate Beeler, of the Washington Examiner, came up with this inventive and funny cartoon…

Mobile Press-Register cartoonist J.D Crowe thinks a little bit of a shake-up is a good thing…

Rob Tornoe used the news of the injury of one of the Phillies’ star pitchers as the peg for his Philadelphia Inquirer toon…

While John Cole of the Scranton Times-Tribune and Adam Zyglis of the Buffalo News, drawing hundreds of miles apart, proved that two great minds can think alike… and at the same time too…
